Climate
change is "significantly amplifying" the threats facing the world's
bird populations, a global assessment has concluded. The 2008 Bird Red
List warns that long-term droughts and extreme weather puts additional stress
on key habitats. The assessment lists 1,226 species as threatened with
extinction - one-in-eight of all bird species. The list, reviewed every
four years, is compiled by conservation charity BirdLife
International. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7409034.stm

Travel
industry promotes 'farewell tour' of Earth's greatest sights before global
warming hits hard. It's been called climate sightseeing, a kind of farewell
tour.

Climate
change will lead to a "fortress world" in which the rich lock
themselves away in gated communities and the poor must fend for themselves in
shattered environments, unless governments act quickly to curb greenhouse gas
emissions, according to the vice-president of the intergovernmental panel on
climate change (IPCC).
